Redevelopment Agency

The Redevelopment Agency was created in the aftermath of the 1983 earthquake. The Agency has two purposes, which is to eliminate blight and encourage the development of affordable housing.

Administration Division

The Agency's primary role is to stimulate economic growth and development to eliminate or mitigate community blight and the symptoms of blight. The Agency has various properties for sale and development that will encourage additional private sector investment to create jobs, develop new businesses and industries, and assist new housing construction for our community. A new program has been created to assist local businesses in complying with building and other code requirements. This Program is the Business Loan Incentive program.

Low and Moderate Income Housing

The Agency must use twenty percent of its revenues for low to moderate income housing. The Agency has several programs including a Senior Housing Paint Program, a Home Buyers Assistance Program, and a Senior Housing Rehabilitation Program. The Agency also partially funds the Code Enforcement Program of the City to assure safe, sanitary, and decent housing.

Building Rentals

The Agency also administers the properties acquired by the City through an Economic Development Administration Grant. These properties, located in Coalinga Plaza, are rented for 'below market rates' to assist start-up businesses. Although not a part of this building rental program, the Agency also manages other properties by the City that are available for sale or lease.
