Residential Rooftop Solar System Permit Streamlining

The state Assembly passed Assembly Bill 2188 (Chapter 521, Statutes 2014) requiring all permitting agencies to create an expedited, streamlined permitting process for small residential rooftop solar energy systems. In response to the States passage of AB 2188, the City developed a process in which the City processes residential rooftop solar systems.

During the course of this update, the City updated all of the forms that the city provides as it relates to residential rooftop solar systems. Below are the forms that will need to be completed and returned to the City of Coalinga Building Department in order to ensure a speedy and efficient review timeframe for residential roof mounted solar systems.

Building and Safety

The Building & Safety Division of the Community Development Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of the California Building Codes and related Federal, State, and City adopted laws and ordinances. This responsibility includes compliance with state mandates assuring all structures meet or exceed the minimum life safety standards of codes, laws, and ordinances. The Building Division assures these standards are met by providing organized procedures for reviewing and approving plans and specifications, issuing permits, and providing building inspections.

Building inspections are made during the construction phase of development by the City's Building Inspectors. Periodic site visits are made to ensure that projects are proceeding consistent with approved plans. To schedule a building inspection, please contact Amy Martinez, Community Development Secretary M-TH from 8:30AM - 5:00PM at (559) 935-1533 x141. All other hours please contact John Self at Extension 146

Before building construction can occur, plans must be prepared and submitted to the Permits Division of the City's Community Development Department to be reviewed for compliance with zoning regulations.
