Coalinga, California![]() Nestled in Pleasant Valley at the eastern edge of California's Coast Mountain Range, surrounded by hills and ranches, Coalinga is 10 miles west of I-5 and 60 miles southwest of Fresno - California's sixth largest city.. Coalinga is a full-service city that provides a wide range of service to 12,200 citizens. Coalinga has an excellent school system, a medical center, parks and recreation district, a 2-year community college, and enjoys a low level of crime through law-abiding citizenry. The City is celebrated its 100th birthday this year. Coalinga is a General Law City operating in a Council - Manager form of Government, with five Councilmembers elected to four year staggered terms. The City Council chooses a Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem from among its members. Coalinga is a full - service city, with a Redevelopment Agency, Public Finance Authority and a new municipal airport. Coalinga provides highly professional Community Development, Transit, Public Works and public safety services (Police, Fire and EMT/Ambulance) and water, wastewater treatment, sanitation, recycling and natural gas utility services.
