The City of Coalinga, nestled in Pleasant Valley at the eastern edge of California's Coast Mountain range, is inviting applications for Chief of Police. The City operates under the City Council/City Management form of government. The Chief of Police and other Department Heads are appointed by and report to the City Manager.

The Coalinga Police Department's authorized personnel compliment is comprised of 19 sworn officers including the Police Chief, a Lieutenant, 4 Sergeants, 4 Corporals, 1 Detective, and 8 Officers. In addition, the department has 11 non-sworn support personnel to carryout dispatch, records, animal control and evidence responsibilities. The dispatch center provides dispatch for both the Police and Fire Departments. The current budget for the department is approximately $2.6 million.

The City seeks a strong, mature, leader with well rounded "hands on" law enforcement experience and excellent interpersonal skills. In addition, the successful candidate should have a minimum of 4 years of law enforcement management experience, a BA/BS degree, strong leadership skills and command presence. The ability to provide clear and concise direction while cultivating a working environment that emphasizes training and teamwork; encourages excellence and demands personal and professional integrity, and service to the community.

Coalinga, an incorporated city in Fresno County, enjoys a low level of crime through law-abiding involved citizenry. It is a full-service city that provides a wide range of services to approximately 12,200 citizens. Coalinga has an excellent school system, a medical center, parks and recreation district, and a 2-year community college. There are currently 480 residential units under construction or in the planning stage. The City also operates Claremont Custody Center that houses over 500 inmates, and is the home of Pleasant Valley State Prison that houses approximately 4,900 inmates and Coalinga State Hospital, which will employ 2,000 for 1,500 patients.

Salary DOQ with an excellent benefit package that includes City paid health benefits, 15 to 20 days vacation, 48 hours of administrative leave, 12 holidays, and up to 20% City paid ICMA 401/457 plans. Coalinga is a non PERS city that offers an excellent post retirement opportunity for qualified candidates to apply their law enforcement experience.
