At around 4:00am on August 20, 2020, the City’s Chief Water Plant Operator received a low-level alarm indicating the level in the Coalinga Canal had dropped significantly. Staff contacted Westland’s and they confirmed that they had unexpectedly lost power at approximately 12:50am due to a vehicle striking a PG&E power pole restricting water flow in the canal. Subsequently, as a result of PG&E repair efforts, at approximately 6:00am the City’s Water Plant lost power and was unable to treat additional water until power was restored at approximately 8:40am.
The City has restored water treatment operations, however the City requests that all residents continue no outside watering until 12:00pm Friday August 21, 2020 to allow the Water Treatment Plant to increase levels in its reservoirs to normal levels to service the community.
We would like to thank all the residents that responded to the City’s request to ensure that the City had water supply during this unexpected outage.
